CaddyTalk Minion Plus Laser Rangefinder Review

Is the CaddyTalk Minion Plus just a gimmick — or a serious tool for serious golfers?

After 38 years playing golf, I’ve used all sorts of rangefinders. I took the CaddyTalk Minion Plus out on course to see if its compact format compromises on performance.

Verdict

The Minion Plus is compact, light, and packed with clever features. It’s not for everyone — especially those who prefer traditional, weighty units — but it performs well and delivers accurate, easy-to-read data in a format that’s fast to use mid-round.

Reasons to buy

  • + Fits easily in a pocket or clips to belt
  • + Quick target acquisition with strong vibration lock
  • + M-Slope and Caddy Mode add real value
  • + Rechargeable battery with high shot capacity

Reasons to avoid

  • Clip-on design won’t appeal to every golfer

Why you can trust this review  I've played golf for 38 years and tested dozens of rangefinders in all conditions. This review is based on actual use during rounds, not spec-sheet guesswork.

First impressions

The Minion Plus is smaller than most rangefinders I’ve used. At just 99g, it’s the lightest laser I’ve ever tested. It fits neatly in the palm and slides easily into a pocket. The clip is firm — it needs to be — and after a few holes I stopped noticing it was there.

Performance

Target acquisition is fast. The vibration feedback is solid and reassuring. I used the slope mode on approach shots and was impressed by the precision, especially on downhill lies. The HD laser system keeps the reticle stable even with shaky hands, though wind does affect stability more than heavier units.

Technology

  • M-Slope: Adjusts distance using ballistics, not just angle — it does feel more dialled in than older slope tech.
  • Caddy Mode: Allows you to calculate distances between two remote points — clever, and actually useful when planning shots on unfamiliar courses.
  • Display: Clear and legible in bright light. The scan function helps quickly assess bunkers, trees, or hazards.
  • Battery: USB-C rechargeable. I’ve not had to top it up once after several rounds.

Real-world use

Used it over three 18-hole rounds. On firm parkland and windier coastal tracks, it stayed accurate and quick. The clip stayed secure. I never once had to go back looking for it, which I can’t say for some bulkier models I’ve used in the past.

Final thoughts

If you want a traditional laser with a bit of heft, this won’t be for you. But if you value quick access, reliable feedback, and useful tech features in a compact format, the Minion Plus is easy to recommend.

If you’re ready to upgrade to a compact, reliable rangefinder with advanced tech like M-Slope and Caddy Mode, the CaddyTalk Minion Plus is a solid choice. It delivers fast, accurate readings in a lightweight format that won’t slow you down. Click below to view the full spec and secure yours today from Golf Xpress:
